Excavation
What is it?
An archaeological excavation is undertaken when significant archaeological remains have been identified within an area and will be disturbed or destroyed by a development.
The aim of the excavation is to expose all archaeological features present, excavate and record those features to provide a record of those features for future generations.
Once all the archaeology has been recorded and permission given from the local planning authority's (LPA) archaeological advisor, the development area is then handed back to the client so the development can continue. A report will then be created based upon the records from the excavation.
